The verification process for domestic transfers from bank accounts in personal online banking now requires strong customer authentication (SCA). Previously, a security number sufficed.
The change is part of action to increase security in the payment confirmation process. SCA in online banking depends on electronic ID or the Auðkenni app.
The changes are extensive and are implemented in stages. The new procedures already apply to payments to cards and domestic transfers. Other payment types will follow, including payments to bank accounts and international payments. The same changes will be introduced for the app and corporate online banking at a later date.
