The atmosphere was exciting and the house packed at Landsbankinn’s DesignMarch event on Friday, 4 April. The event began with a discussion about funding and design, and in the evening, young fashion designers took over the stage.
Investing in design is clearly a hot topic and the designers showed that there is high activity in the fashion sector in Iceland.
Investing in design - Eyjólfur in Epal honoured
Hanna Katrín Friðriksson, the Minister of Industry, opened the event by honouring Eyjólfur Pálsson, founder of Epal, for his 50-year contribution to Icelandic design.
Moving on, the programme consisted of short talks from a diverse group of experts who shared their experience of investment and design, and addressed the importance of highlighting value creation in the field. Our speakers were Komal Singh from Polestar, Paul Madsen from Normann Copenhagen, Kristín Eva Ólafsdóttir from Gagarin interactive, Dario Nuñez Salazar from Hildiberg and Salóme Guðmundsdóttir, DesignMarch board member.
A lively panel, moderated by Karítas Diðriksdóttir, followed, directly and indirectly posing the question: How do we invest in the ideas of the future?
Fatahönnuðir framtíðarinnar // Young Talents of Fashion Design
In the evening, the staircase at Landsbankinn was transformed into a runway when six young fashion designers took over the stage in a live fashion performance titled The Source – Young Talents of Fashion. The designers showcasing their work were Andrea Margrétardóttir, Kári Eyvindur, Michal Pajak Pajonik, Sigríður Ágústa Finnbogadóttir, Sóley Jóhannsdóttir and Thelma Gunnarsdóttir.
The staging and artistic direction were handled by Anna Clausen and musician Thomas Stankiewicz created a fantastic atmosphere.
The six shows held in a service and retail space at the corner of Geirsgata and Reykjastræti 6 were well-executed and well-attended.
The events hosted by Landsbankinn were a resounding success and we thank everyone at DesignMarch for the collaboration. We look forward to following these exciting designers in the future and continuing to create a platform for dialogue about the relationship between design and finance.
