Landsbankinn’s art collection contains a varied selection of abstract art, perhaps surprisingly so for a traditional bank. Curator and art historian Aðalsteinn Ingólfsson notes that in the early days of abstract painting in Iceland, the style was met with hostility in conservative circles and that the Bank’s purchase of such art undoubtedly increased its popularity among the public. Landsbankinn’s collection of works by Iceland’s main abstract painters is one of the largest in the country.
